Drew Hendry MP launches Scottish Living Wage internship programme

Sally-and-DrewThis week saw the launch of a Scottish Living Wage internship programme within the constituency office. The internship programme will offer two-month fixed term posts throughout the year to young people between 16 and 24, living in the constituency of Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch & Strathspey. It is hoped that the internships will help provide young people with valuable work experience, as well as providing crucial support to the constituency office and specifically the constituents in the area. The interns will work on various community engagement projects and support the day to day work of the busy constituency office.

Sally Donald, a Psychology graduate from Inverness, is the first successful candidate to take up the internship role.

Commenting on her new post, she said:

“I am really excited to take on this new role and I am looking forward to working with Drew and his team. One of the most challenging things for a new graduate is to get good work experience, and I am sure that this opportunity will give me that in abundance.”

The MP added:

“Where they can, it is everyone’s responsibility help develop our young people. Our Scottish Living wage internship program will give young people living in the constituency a unique opportunity to gain experience whilst allowing my office and I to work even more efficiently to help the many people who come to me for assistance. I am delighted that Sally will join as the first of these interns and, whilst it is for a short period of time, I am confident that it will benefit both her and the constituents greatly.”

Future internship posts will be advertised on the Member of Parliament’s website and on social media pages.
