I’ve been back in the constituency every week since I was elected but one of the great benefits to Parliamentary recess is the prolonged period it gives you back home. It’s allowed me to visit some local retailers in the City Centre to listen to the issues most important to them and what better place to start than in Victorian Market.
It was a particular delight to pop into the brand new sweet shop Sweet Passion, which specialises in Polish sweets and unique crafts. A welcomed addition to the Market.
It was, of course, also great to catch up with lots of well kent faces!
Be it the collection of scarves and handbags at Ginger, a particular favourite of my young daughters, or the excellent engraving service offered by Maclean’s Jewellery, the market has a wonderful collection of unique shops.
As Leader of the Council I always took an active role in supporting local businesses and I fully intend to continue this in my new role.
Over the coming weeks I want to get around as many businesses across the constituency as possible. I am privileged to serve a constituency that has a wonderful blend of urban and rural but it never fails to amaze me how similar the issues facing businesses are.
