Drew Hendry MP for Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch & Strathspey joined representatives from HIAL, British Airways and members of the local business community at Inverness Airport this morning to make the announcement that British Airways flights between Heathrow and Inverness are set to become a daily reality from May next year.
Following the announcement, Drew Hendry MP said:
“It is excellent news that Europe’s fastest growing City will once again be connected to the UK’s busiest Airport after many years of absence. Connecting the Highlands and Islands to international hubs, like Heathrow, will bring real benefits to our economy and for our people.”
“The economic boost for the business community will be significant as will the very positive impact on our thriving tourism sector. Here in the Highlands we are certainly not short of collective ambition for the area and I am delighted that, in making this commitment to the region, BA seem to share those aspirations.
“This is an important step, but we must also continue the work to seek to guarantee routes between Inverness and international hubs, such as Heathrow. To that end, there remains work to be done. I hope that this announcement is the first of many and I will continue to work with HIAL, the Scottish Government and others to ensure Inverness Airport is firmly on the map as a great place to do business”
